Word of the Day: The essential ingredient for an unbreakable marriage

Love. This is the essential element for a marriage not to be destroyed. But what does it mean to love? Love is different from passion, which is a fleeting feeling. To love is the decision we make every day to dedicate ourselves to the well-being of others.

And well-being, or what is best for the spouse, involves understanding, sacrifice, forgiveness, and commitment on our part. This is the nature of biblical love, which many nowadays are unfamiliar with.

⁷ Beloved, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God.
Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
⁸ Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
¹⁰ This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

1 John 4:7-8 and 10

Most people project onto marriage the dream of perfect love that they will only find in Jesus Christ. That's why they get frustrated and can't carry forward the marriage commitment because they base it on fragile and selfish foundations. When getting married, a Christian needs to remember they are entering into a covenant with a sinner, loved by God.

This person, so admired, will certainly fail, to a greater or lesser extent. But even so, they remain someone for whom Christ proved His love on the cross. For this reason, you should also love, empathize, forgive, and encourage to become more like Christ.

Who gives us the strength to love, despite adversities? Jesus!

Word of the Day: God Is Thinking of You

Right now, God has you in His thoughts. Have you ever stopped to think about that? God has a plan for your life, He is thinking about you in everything He does.

17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand -
when I awake, I am still with you.
Psalm 139:17-18

Every single thing that happens, whether good or bad, God knows! Yes, it shows an incomprehensible depth and abundance of God's thoughts toward us and an intimate understanding of us. Such a vast sum of thoughts, that the psalmist likens them to countless grains of sand. God's love and concern for His people have no limits. His God's thoughts toward us are constant, unwavering, and immeasurable, extending beyond our comprehension.

6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Luke 12:6-7

Jesus also highlights God's intimate knowledge and care for His creation, when he mentions the sparrows in Luke 12. He emphasizes that not one sparrow is forgotten by God and that even the very hairs of our heads are known about. The knowledge and understanding of us is so meticulous and detailed that it could only belong to the one who created us. Not only this, but it reinforces the idea that God has a care for us that is deep, personal, and comprehensive.

Day Before Yesterday's Word

Word of the Day: What if today was your last day?

Would you be ready to meet God face-to-face tomorrow? Perhaps that's a scary thought! Or something you have never thought about before. But it is important to be prepared. Jesus tells a story about being prepared for his return:

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

25 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

Matthew 25:1-5

In the passage the wise virgins were prepared for the long wait, they had taken enough oil to last for the evening, but the foolish virgins had not... They were unprepared and suffered the consequences:

6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’

12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’

Matthew 25:6-12

The Bible says if you repent of your sins and dedicate your life to following Jesus, there's no need to fear! You are prepared for the time when God will come and judge the living and the dead. When it's time to give an account, Jesus will purify all who have been faithful to Him.

But for those who are not prepared, who have not repented of their sins and dedicated their lives to Jesus, the situation is dire. In the story, Jesus says to the foolish virgins "Truly I tell you, I don't know you", in the end, nothing else mattered, not their wealth, status, or possessions. They had no relationship with Jesus, so they were locked out of the banquet. Make things right with God today, while you still have time.

Live for Jesus and receive the hope of Heaven!
