Today's Word
Take heart and be courageous: God will act
Be strong and take heart,
all you who hope in the Lord.
- Psalm 31:24
Although we would like God to answer our prayers immediately and work without delay to give us what we long for, that is not always the case. Sometimes, we have to wait and that isn’t easy. There’s a saying that “waiting brings despair,” but the children of God must never lose hope.
The verse above is found in Psalm 31. It encourages us to remain firm and strong in the Lord, even when we must wait for Him to answer our prayers or intervene in a situation.
Psalm 31 is a precious psalm of trust that begins with a cry:
In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
deliver me in your righteousness.
Turn your ear to me,
come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge,
a strong fortress to save me.
- Psalm 31:1–2
David, the psalmist, waited for God's intervention but he did so with confidence. He cried out to God knowing he could stand firm in the Lord, his strong rock. We don’t know exactly what David was facing at that moment. He went through many hardships in life, yet his trust in God never wavered.
Are you going through a difficult moment right now? Take courage and be strong! Come to God with confidence, because the Lord Almighty is with you and He will act. Stand today with a strengthened heart and a faith-filled spirit. Renew yourself with the assurance that God, your strong rock, will work on your behalf.

Become an expert in prayer
To demolish a building, demolition experts place explosives in strategic locations so that everything falls at once and in the best possible way.
In the Christian life, prayer is like dynamite. When we pray strategically, the enemy's strongholds fall. That’s why it’s so important to learn more about prayer. Do you want to grow spiritually and strengthen your prayer life? See what the Word of God says:
Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
- Matthew 26:41
If you want to overcome temptation, be spiritually alert and pray frequently to the Father. He will strengthen you and help you live a victorious life.
God encourages us in His Word to pray at all times. He does this because He acts powerfully when He hears the prayers of His children. He wants to answer our prayers!
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
– Ephesians 6:18
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
– John 15:7
Therefore, if you want to see God working in you and through your life, maintain a healthy prayer life. Talk to God about yourself and your family, your problems, your desires, and ask Him what He wants from you. Become an expert in prayer and witness the power of God.

Spread the fragrance of Christ
But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.
- 2 Corinthians 2:14
God has done a great work in our lives! In Christ, we’ve passed from darkness to light, from death to eternal life. Just as the Romans would celebrate their victories with a triumphal procession, we too march with Christ in a victorious parade, celebrating what He has done in and through us.
Incense played an important role in Roman victory marches. The people didn’t just witness the triumph they could smell it. In the same way, we reveal the transformation Christ has made in our lives and spread His sweet fragrance through our actions and attitudes. And for what purpose? So that others may come to know Christ.
How can you do this? Fill your heart with the love of God and choose to love those around you in practical ways that glorify Him. Remember: when you serve others with love, you are serving the Lord Jesus Christ.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
- Matthew 25:35–40
