Today's Word
Light that is shining brighter
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
- 1 John 1:5
The day you received Jesus into your life as Lord and Savior, you passed from darkness into light. Now you live in the light of the Lord. Each time you choose to follow the path of His righteousness, live within His will, and do what pleases Him, the light of the Lord in you grows and impacts the people around you.
Do you want to transform your environment with the Lord’s love, peace, and righteousness? Remain on the path illuminated by the Lord, the one He has laid out for you. Follow His light today and into eternity. May your light grow brighter every day until it reaches its fullness!
The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
shining brighter and brighter
until the full light of day.
- Proverbs 4:18
To carry the light of Christ, you must remain in Him. As you spend more time with Him and allow Him to transform you more into His image, your light increases, and you can impact your surroundings. Stand firm in the Lord, receive His light every day, and overcome the darkness around you with the power of His light.
Again Jesus spoke to the people, saying: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
- John 8:12

The Parables
What is a parable? It is a story that helps us understand a more complex reality. Jesus liked to use parables to teach about topics such as repentance, forgiveness, perseverance, humility, and many other important matters. Through these stories, we can discover great truths that can transform our lives.
For example, Jesus used the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:1–23, Mark 4:1–20, and Luke 8:5–15) to teach us how to discern what kind of “soil” we are, what kind others are, and how we can sow his Word.
A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
- Luke 8:5–8
The people who had hearts open to the move of the Lord understood his parables and were transformed. Hearing the words of Jesus marked a new beginning for them.
Those who were hardened could not understand Jesus’ teachings and remained in rebellion. For them, what Jesus said made no sense.
Which of the two groups do you identify with?
Pray to God to help you understand what he wants to say to you through his Word so that you may be transformed each day and become more like Jesus.
The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.
- Matthew 13:10–12

God is our stone of help
Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us
- 1 Samuel 7:12
The Israelites were discouraged in their battle against the Philistines, but their victory depended on God, who was their stone of help. Samuel’s story is an example of how God cares for His people and remains faithful. In our greatest battles, if we depend on the Lord, He will help us too!
Ebenezer was the name given to the stone Samuel set up at the place of battle as a memorial. It declared that they believed and proclaimed, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.” Without God’s help, they would never have made it that far. And the same is true in our lives: without God, we can do nothing. But with Him, we are more than conquerors!
Think about this: the very place that had once been the scene of a great defeat for the Israelites (1 Samuel 4) was transformed into a memorial of grace and victory through the power of God. In the same way, God can do this for you. Trust in Him in moments of need. He can turn lack into provision, suffering into relief, and shine a light in the midst of darkness.
Jesus Christ is our eternal Rock! Hold on to Him and stand firm, for He will sustain you…
