Repentance is the key to moving on in life. When we repent, we acknowledge our sins and reject them, we choose to live differently. With God's help, repentance leads us to a new life.
1. Whoever Repents Will Be Saved
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.
Acts 3:19-20
Repentance is a fundamental step in our lives. Without repentance, there is no forgiveness, and without forgiveness, there is no drawing near to God. He wants to forgive you; come before Him.
2. God Forgives Those Who Repent
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9
God is faithful; trust in Him. When we genuinely repent, God forgives us. He cleanses our hearts and purifies us from all sin. Now, for this, it is necessary for us to humbly confess our sins. Know this: God is willing to forgive you.
3. Repentance Brings Life
For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!
Ezekiel 18:32
Sin leads to death, but repentance leads to life. When we repent and believe in Jesus as our savior, we receive forgiveness and eternal life. Repentance frees us from death!
4. The Cure for Sin
Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
Luke 5:31-32
Sin is like a disease that infects and destroys us. But repentance is the first step towards healing. Jesus is the doctor who saves the life of those who repent.
5. Forgiveness and the Holy Spirit
Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:38
God forgives those who repent and gives a special blessing: the Holy Spirit. When we repent, we are saved and receive the Holy Spirit into our hearts. He guides us and teaches us to live for God.
6. Repent While There Is Time
and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near."
Matthew 3:2
The kingdom of heaven is near. And only those who are saved can enter it. Repentance opens the door to eternity, so we can enjoy all the goodness and righteousness of God. If you haven't repented of your sins yet, don't delay until tomorrow!
7. Repenting of Sin Is Moving Forward
I confess my iniquity;
I am troubled by my sin.
Psalm 38:18
It may seem counter-intuitive, but when we confess our sins, we move forward and not backward. Sin precisely prevents us from advancing in faith and drawing closer to God. When we ask God for forgiveness, the Lord breaks down the barrier that sin created.
