Rebekah, wife of Isaac and mother of Esau and Jacob, is a woman of faith and courage. She was chosen by God to marry Isaac after demonstrating kindness by offering water to Abraham’s servant. Her story teaches about obedience and trust in God.

Rebekah’s story is told in the book of Genesis, where Abraham, concerned about the future of his son Isaac, sends his servant on a journey to find a wife for him. The servant prayed to God, asking that the chosen woman be generous and offer water not only to him but also to his camels. When Rebekah appeared, she did exactly that, showing hospitality and kindness. Rebekah was the daughter of Bethuel and sister of Laban (Genesis 24:29), who would become the father-in-law of her son Jacob.

Impressed, Abraham’s servant went to her family, and after speaking with Rebekah’s father and brother, she accepted the marriage proposal. With faith, she left her home and traveled to marry Isaac without hesitation. Upon arriving, she was welcomed by Isaac, who was mourning the death of his mother, Sarah. Together, they formed a new family.

A representation Rebekah (Wife of Isaac and Mother of Jacob)

Rebekah had two sons: Esau and Jacob. The most well-known story involving Rebekah centers around Isaac’s blessing, when she, with Jacob’s help, deceived the blind Isaac so that he would give the blessing of the firstborn to Jacob instead of Esau. This act caused conflict, but it also fulfilled God’s plans, as He had already declared that Jacob would be the chosen one.

However, after helping Jacob deceive Isaac, Rebekah never saw Jacob again because he had to flee.
