Boaz became known for his normal but exemplary life. He was a wealthy farmer who lived in a small village called Bethlehem. He was neither a warrior nor an influential politician, but he was respected in his land because he feared God.

In the time of Boaz, there was no king in Israel, and each person did as they pleased. Sin and wickedness were widespread. But Boaz chose to serve God. One day, a woman named Ruth entered Boaz’s life, and she brought out the best in him.

Boaz (a man of God)

Boaz decided to protect Ruth, a foreign widow who came to work in his field. He did not treat her with contempt or prejudice. He saw that she was a hard worker and heard that she had left everything to take care of her mother-in-law, Naomi.

Boaz offered Ruth a job and made her feel welcome. He made a point to treat her with kindness. And that completely changed both of their destinies. Boaz was also rich in heart! He not only gave Ruth a job, but also made sure she had plenty of food. Throughout the entire harvest season, Boaz ensured the provision for Ruth and Naomi.

Boaz did not count his coins when helping others! He was more concerned with Ruth’s well-being than with the profit of his farm. Boaz did not keep God’s financial blessing only for himself. Boaz had great respect for Ruth. He valued her loyalty to Naomi and her dedication to work. That’s why, when Ruth proposed to him, Boaz recognized that she would be an exemplary wife!

Boaz did not see Ruth as an object to be used for profit at work or pleasure at home. He saw a worthy person whom he ought to treat with respect. On the night she proposed to him, he could have done whatever he wanted with her, because they were alone. But Boaz was faithful. He did not toy with Ruth or make demands. He was a true gentleman.

“Who are you?” he asked. “I am your servant Ruth,” she said. “Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a guardian-redeemer of our family.”

- Ruth 3:9

Boaz fulfilled the role of guardian-redeemer—a close relative who had the right and responsibility to redeem a family’s property and name. Although there was another relative closer than him, Boaz faithfully followed the proper customs and made sure everything was done correctly.

Boaz was a man of his word. He promised to handle the formalities for the marriage, and that’s exactly what he did the very next day! He made sure to settle everything publicly at the city gate, in front of witnesses, showing integrity and honoring Ruth. Because of his faithfulness, God blessed Boaz and Ruth’s marriage, and their descendants became kings of Israel. Their lineage included King David, and generations later, Jesus Christ - the Redeemer of the world - would come from this lineage.

God blesses those who are faithful. When we are faithful in the small things of daily life, we receive unexpected blessings.

Be like Boazlive an exemplary life!
