The Psalms of the Bible are a source of inspiration and encouragement throughout all times. In many of them, we learn that God is our faithful protection! He has preserved and delivered His servants in the past and continues to watch over those who trust in Him today and forever. God is with you and keeps you from the beginning to the end of your days!

Protected Under the Shadow of the Most High

Psalm 91

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,

- Psalm 91:1-15

Under the protective wings of the Almighty God, we find secure refuge! Psalm 91 shows us that when we seek God's protection, we are guarded from all harm. He is our protective shield, guiding us through any adversity in life. With God as our protection and refuge, we are invincible! The Lord empowers us to overcome challenges, which is why we call out to Him with all our hearts. By maintaining this trust, we will receive answers to our prayers and long life until His complete salvation.

Whom Shall I Fear?

Psalm 27

The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid?

- Psalm 27:1

With God, there is nothing to fear! The Lord is our Light and our Salvation, which gives us the courage to face any adversity that comes our way. If we truly trust in Him, we need not fear anything, for He is our eternal fortress. The steadfast trust in God, as expressed in Psalm 27, provides us with strength to overcome the challenges and dangers of life. The violence and wickedness of men cannot surpass the great and powerful God we serve. Remember that God is Almighty, and nothing escapes His control. Do not fear, but find refuge in Him.

Always Trust in the Lord’s Care and Protection

Psalm 40

1 I waited patiently for the Lord;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
and put their trust in him.

4 Blessed is the one
who trusts in the Lord,
who does not look to the proud,
to those who turn aside to false gods.
5 Many, Lord my God,
are the wonders you have done,
the things you planned for us.
None can compare with you;
were I to speak and tell of your deeds,
they would be too many to declare.

6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire -
but my ears you have opened -
burnt offerings and sin offeringsyou did not require.
7 Then I said, “Here I am, I have come -
it is written about me in the scroll.
8 I desire to do your will, my God;
your law is within my heart.”

9 I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly;
I do not seal my lips, Lord,
as you know.
10 I do not hide your righteousness in my heart;
I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help.
I do not conceal your love and your faithfulness
from the great assembly.

11 Do not withhold your mercy from me, Lord;
may your love and faithfulness always protect me.
12 For troubles without number surround me;
my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see.
They are more than the hairs of my head,
and my heart fails within me.
13 Be pleased to save me, Lord;
come quickly, Lord, to help me.

14 May all who want to take my life
be put to shame and confusion;
may all who desire my ruin
be turned back in disgrace.
15 May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!”
be appalled at their own shame.
16 But may all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
“The Lord is great!”

17 But as for me, I am poor and needy;
may the Lord think of me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
you are my God, do not delay.

- Psalm 40:1-17

God is the hope of your heart. Even if you feel surrounded by violence and wickedness, trust and wait, for God has all power and can protect you! Your help comes from the Lord! He does not abandon those who truly trust in Him. As Psalm 40 tells us, wait with faith and hold on to the strong arm of the Lord! In His presence, we find refuge and comfort, no matter what is happening around us. Believe that the Lord takes care of you! He is the faithful Deliverer, who supports and rescues you from the dangers of life.

The Lord is Our Great Shield

Psalm 5

Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield.

- Psalm 5:12

A shield is a powerful defensive weapon. It can make the person who wields it strong and resistant against the attacks of an enemy. God's favor acts as a shield for those who believe. Those who walk in the righteousness of Christ receive this indestructible grace. The Lord blesses those who live rightly and protects them from the evils that surround them. God's goodness encircles the faithful like a fortified shield. Therefore, it is worthwhile to trust, pray, and seek the Kingdom of God, fulfilling His righteousness. Firm in Jesus Christ, you will live securely, assured of protection that never fails!

God is Your Help and Strength

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

- Psalm 46:1-11

A fortress is built to protect those who take refuge within it, and for millennia, fortresses have been the most secure places in the world. This is our God, an unbreakable fortress and a help in adversity. He is the infinite God! His power has no limits. Calm your heart, and surrender all your fears and anxieties to Him. Remember: He is God over the entire universe! Is there anything that He cannot surround with His divine care? No. He is with us. If you trust in God, you need not fear anything.

Protect me, God!

Psalm 16

1 Keep me safe, my God,
for in you I take refuge.

2 I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing.”
3 I say of the holy people who are in the land,
“They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.”
4 Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more.
I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods
or take up their names on my lips.

5 Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
you make my lot secure.
6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
surely I have a delightful inheritance.
7 I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,
10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
nor will you let your faithful one see decay.
11 You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

- Psalm 16:1-11

The wealthiest and most powerful people in the world seek refuge in their riches and what they can acquire. However, those who trust in the Lord see God as their greatest treasure and make Him their protection. Unlike the powerful, we need not fear losing our greatest treasure because He Himself protects us from evil. If God is your greatest treasure, then rest assured! He will lead you to a life full of joy. Do not fear evil; the Lord is enough for you. Just trust with all your heart.

The Lord is the one who guards you!

Psalm 121

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains -
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip -
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The Lord watches over you -
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The Lord will keep you from all harm -
he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

- Psalm 121:1-8

On our journey, we may look to the "high places" of this world for help, but true assistance comes from the Lord. He never sleeps, is always attentive to our needs, and guards us from all harm. Find confidence in His constant protection. Psalm 121 inspires us to lift our eyes to the heavens, acknowledging that our hope and help come from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

The Lord protects those who trust in Him

Psalm 33

16 No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19 to deliver them from death
and keep them alive in famine.

20 We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
22 May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.

- Psalm 33:16-22

Just as a well-equipped army cannot guarantee our salvation, no other person or human resource can assure us of complete defense. Only the Lord is our true source of protection. In this passage from Psalm 33, we learn that our human strength and earthly resources are not enough to save us. True victory and protection come from the Lord, who watches over those who fear Him and trust in His unfailing love. In times of uncertainty and adversity, He is our unshakable rock.

Keep me as the apple of Your eye

Psalm 17

Keep me as the apple of your eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings
- Psalm 17:8

The phrase "apple of the eye" refers to the pupil, the central and most sensitive part of the eye. In a vivid comparison, the psalmist David asks God to protect him with special care, just as we protect the central part of our eyes. Through this verse, we are invited to trust in God as our supreme and personal protection. He surrounds us with His grace, knowing that we are vulnerable. The Lord cares for us, much like a bird shelters its young under its wings, offering us a safe haven in all circumstances. The eyes of the Lord are upon you, guarding you throughout your journey.
