Prayer for a Good Night's Sleep

Lord my God,
Another day has come to an end...
Thank you, Lord, not only for the good times today but also for the bad.
In these moments you teach me to depend on you more.

Right now, I want to hand everything over to you: the difficulties and worries, the achievements and joys of today.
I know that you have been by my side. Calm my mind and heart so that I can sleep well.
Remove all fear, anxiety and anguish from my soul.
Help me to always love and forgive those who have offended me.

May I rest in your peace, always trusting in your faithful Word.
Grant me a good night's sleep, relieve all physical and mental tiredness.
In the name of Jesus, I ask these things, and thank you.
Amen!

Night Prayer for Protection

Father of all mercy, bless my life.
Deliver me from the enemies who want to harm me.
Send your angels to protect me from danger, all violence, anguish and disaster.
Protect my soul, my family, my relationships and all my brothers and sisters in Christ.
Remove from my path the Enemy who wishes to kill, steal and destroy at all costs.
Keep me daily in your presence, Lord God, as the apple of your eye.
May your great power sustain and uphold me in this hour and always.
I am grateful for your goodness and mercy.
I pray in Jesus' name.
Amen!

An Evening Prayer for the Family

Lord our God, be with us now, in this home, and protect our family.
We are grateful for your love and faithfulness.
We ask for a special blessing on all family members. We desire your love, companionship, and direction.

May your good hand guide us along the paths we should take.
Help us to love one another, and look after the well-being and unity of the family.
May differences, quarrels and arguments be put aside and forgiven.
May your love reign in our home, bringing peace, harmony and understanding.
Bless us all with renewed strength to overcome the challenges of everyday life.

Give us the courage to say no to what is wrong, the courage and diligence to persevere.
Give us wisdom and understanding to live and obey your Word,
always being good examples in character, faith and love.

Bless all our loved ones, beloved Lord...
Grant health to, and meet the needs of our parents, children, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren.
Help them to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus.
And in all these things, we beg you and we thank you,
Amen!

Evening prayer for friends

Lord God, thank you for our friendships.
Teach me to care for and remember my friends in their time of need.

Help us,
so that we may help each other.
Strengthen us,
so that we may strengthen each other.
Encourage us,
so that we may encourage one another.
Sustain us so that we may sustain one another.
and Love us,
so that we may love one another.

May your love inspire us to be better friends, more loyal, more understanding, more forgiving.
Bless and keep all my friends safe, now and always.
Amen.

Prayer for Peaceful Sleep

Mighty God, before I go to sleep I ask you: please grant me good dreams!
Clear my mind of all nightmares and bad dreams, because you are so good, oh Father!
I cast at the foot of the cross all my anxieties, life's traumas, and the onslaughts of the evil one.
May everything that wants to steal my peace be destroyed.
I know that your care reaches me and supports me in this hour.

Stay with me tonight and always, Eternal God.
You are the Creator of the universe, and you do not sleep!
Watch over me, drive all evil from our home and fear from my heart.
Give me a restful night and sweet dreams, in Jesus' name!
Amen!

Evening prayers from the Bible

Psalm 4

1 Answer me when I call to you,
my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
have mercy on me and hear my prayer.

2 How long will you people turn my glory into shame?
How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?
3 Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself;
the Lord hears when I call to him.

4 Tremble and do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
5 Offer the sacrifices of the righteous
and trust in the Lord.

6 Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?”
Let the light of your face shine on us.
7 Fill my heart with joy
when their grain and new wine abound.

8 In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, Lord,
make me dwell in safety.

A Prayer Based on the Ten Commandments

Oh Lord, one true God,
I want to hear your laws.

May I worship you.
May I worship only you, above all things.
May everything I say and do show respect for your name.
May I respect the weekly day of rest.
May I honour my parents.
May I reject violence and evil, so that I never take someone's life.
May I be loyal to my friends and faithful to the commitment of marriage/relationships.
May I not steal what belongs to others.
May I not tell lies to destroy other people's reputations.
May I not be envious of what others have, but be satisfied with the good things you have given me.

Prayer for more virtues

Lord God, help me to live up to the virtues you have placed on me.
May I endeavour to add perfect conduct to faith,
to good behaviour, let me add knowledge;
To knowledge let me add self-control;
to self-control let me add perseverance;
to perseverance let me add devotion to God and piety;
to devotion to God let me add brotherhood and affection for my neighbour;
and to fraternity let me add love.
I want to grow in these things, to be more productive and useful,
and to attain the complete knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Psalm 91

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

Psalm 91:1-16

Evening prayer for forgiveness

When I try to hide my mistakes, things keep going wrong.
That's why I come to You for forgiveness.
To tell you everything, oh God...
To tell you about all the wrong things I've done.

I've given up trying to pretend.
I'm tired of trying to hide my sins.
I have always known deep inside what I had to do; confess my faults to you, merciful God.
I recognise my sin and do not hide my guilt from you.

By faith, I believe that you have forgiven me...
God has forgiven me.
That is why I want to be faithful to you, Lord God.
In prayer, I seek you in the calm where you can be found.
And when the storms come, I will be protected.
You are my shelter; you preserve me from anguish and surround me with songs of deliverance.

All Praise to Thee, My God, This Night

1. All praise to thee, my God, this night,
for all the blessings of the light!
Keep me, O keep me, King of kings,
beneath thine own almighty wings.

2. Forgive me, Lord, for thy dear Son,
the ill that I this day have done,
that with the world, myself, and thee,
I, ere I sleep, at peace may be.

3. Teach me to live, that I may dread
the grave as little as my bed.
Teach me to die, that so I may
rise glorious at the judgment day.

4. O may my soul on thee repose,
and with sweet sleep mine eyelids close,
sleep that may me more vigorous make
to serve my God when I awake.

5. Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Goodness of God

I love You, Lord
Your mercy never fails me
All my days
I've been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
I will sing of the goodness of God

Cause all my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God

I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
In the darkest nights
You are close like no other

I've known You as a father
I've known You as a friend
I have lived in the goodness of God

All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God.

Your goodness is running after me
Yes, Your goodness is running after me
With my life laid down, I'm surrendered now
I give You everything
For Your goodness is running after me.

Great Are You Lord

You give life, You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore every heart that is broken
And great are You, Lord

It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise

All the earth will shout Your praise
Our hearts will cry, these bones will sing
Great are You, Lord

(from Music & Text by All Sons and Daughters)

I will both lie down and sleep
