The Bible reveals that the family is a project instituted by God. The family is a perfect project that reflects God's love for us.
When God created man, He noticed that while man had dominion over the other animals, he did not feel complete. Adam needed someone who corresponded to him, someone with whom he could have a mutual relationship (Genesis 2:18). Thus, God created the woman and blessed them.
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground".
- Genesis 1:28
God allowed man and woman to become "one flesh," completing each other; the result of this union is the family. This is God's mathematics:
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
- Genesis 2:24
Every family is a sign of fertility; parents, children, grandparents, uncles, cousins. The family structure reflects how good God's project is.
Just as our relationship with God must be nurtured daily, the family also needs our care. Love should be the fuel that sustains the family, and each spouse should treat the other with respect.
However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
- Ephesians 5:33
Love is an essential element in keeping a family united. And it is in maintaining this divine project that Jesus is so important. He is the mediating bond between the couple, and in this way, the family remains united in the face of life's challenges.
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
- Ecclesiastes 4:12
Christ must be the bond that unites the family; all should move in the same direction. Just as Jesus was invited to the "wedding at Cana" (John 2:1-2), we must invite Him into our home. It is through Jesus that the family receives direction.
The family is God's project, so value this beautiful project. Put Jesus first and have a blessed family!
