It's hard to keep your spirits up when you're going through difficult times. But we are not alone! In the most difficult times, the Bible offers us words of consolation that help us to carry on. In Jesus, we find the encouragement we need to overcome all difficulties.
1. Salvation comes from God
"The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble."
Psalm 37:39
In times of trouble, God sustains us! If you love God, with your life dedicated to him, God will take care of you, even in the greatest problems. Trust in God. He is powerful to help you overcome adversity.
2. Don't give up!
"Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
Corinthians 15:58
When difficulties mount up, it sometimes makes you want to abandon everything and give in to sin. But that's not the solution! You may not see the results now, but if you remain faithful, God will use you to do great things.
3. God strengthens
"So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Isaiah 41:10
Your strength may fail, but God will hold you firm. In difficult times, when you can no longer go on, come to God and he will give you the strength you need. In Jesus, we have victory over discouragement.
4. The will to win
"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
Philippians 4:13
The apostle Paul went through suffering and trials which led to him feeling discouraged. But in Jesus, he discovered that he could endure all these things and come out victorious! If you love Jesus, you too can endure everything, with encouragement and the hope of greater glory.
5. The God of peace
"The Lord gives strength to his people;
the Lord blesses his people with peace."
Psalm 29:11
Our God is powerful, able to cut through the sky, shake the desert, and twist the forests with the sound of his voice. In the same way, he can give you strength and grant you peace. Trust in our Lord and rest in his power.
6. Overflowing with hope
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Romans 15:13
The Lord is known as The God of Hope. We learn from this verse that it is through joy and peace that our hope in God grows. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us joy and peace and is responsible for making us overflow with hope. So open your heart to receive these gifts!
7. He has already won!
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Jesus knew very well that this is a world of pain and affliction. His teachings, however, are a comfort to all our pain. This comfort, as he said, is the victory! Jesus Christ has conquered the world, conquered death, and conquered the Devil. He is our champion!
