From Weakness to Strength: Bible Verses to get you Through Difficult Times

It's hard to keep your spirits up when you're going through difficult times. But we are not alone! In the most difficult times, the Bible offers us words of consolation that help us to carry on. In Jesus, we find the encouragement we need to overcome all difficulties.

Here are scriptures from the Bible that will strengthen you and give you courage in your lowest moments - Bible verses that will give you peace in the midst of the storm by helping you find power in God's presence, Our refuge in the times of need.

1. Psalm 37:39

"The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord;
He is their stronghold in time of trouble."

- Psalm 37:39

In times of trouble, God sustains us! If you love God, with your life dedicated to him, God will take care of you, even in the greatest problems. Trust in God. He is powerful to help you overcome adversity.

2. Chronicles 16:11

Look to the Lord and  His strength; seek His face always. - 1 Chronicles 16:11

Take refuge in the Lord and His strength; seek His presence always!

Find safety and strength in the Lord. In His presence is power and refuge. Seek the face of the Lord, make Him a constant part of your life. Come into His presence morning, noon and night.

3. Corinthians 15:58

"Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."

When difficulties mount up, it sometimes makes you want to abandon everything and give in to sin. But that's not the solution! You may not see the results now, but if you remain faithful, God will use you to do great things.

4. Isaiah 41:10

"So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Your strength may fail, but God will hold you firm. In difficult times, when you can no longer go on, come to God and he will give you the strength you need. In Jesus, we have victory over discouragement.

Lord, I want to be alert so that I am not deceived by the enemy. Help me to stand firm today, to be courageous in You, and to receive Your strength to triumph in the midst of life's trials.

6. Philippians 4:13

"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

The apostle Paul went through suffering and trials which led to him feeling discouraged. But in Jesus, he discovered that he could endure all these things and come out victorious! If you love Jesus, you too can endure everything, with encouragement and the hope of greater glory.

7. Psalm 29:11

"The Lord gives strength to his people;
the Lord blesses his people with peace."

- Psalm 29:11

Our God is powerful, able to cut through the sky, shake the desert, and twist the forests with the sound of his voice. In the same way, he can give you strength and grant you peace. Trust in our Lord and rest in his power.

8. Romans 15:13

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

The Lord is known as The God of Hope. We learn from this verse that it is through joy and peace that our hope in God grows. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us joy and peace and is responsible for making us overflow with hope. So open your heart to receive these gifts!

9. Psalm 46:1-2

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. - Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea.

Thank you, beloved God, because I can turn to You in the midst of my tribulations! From You, I receive help, the strength I need, and the courage to move forward with faith. Whatever life brings, I will not fear, but will trust in You, Your power, and Your help.

10. John 16:33

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Jesus knew very well that this is a world of pain and affliction. His teachings, however, are a comfort to all our pain. This comfort, as he said, is the victory! Jesus Christ has conquered the world, conquered death, and conquered the Devil. He is our champion!

11. Psalm 27:1

The Lord is my light and my salvation -
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life -
of whom shall I be afraid?

When David was pursued by Saul, he turned to the Lord. He expressed absolute trust and complete dependence on the Lord. Just like David, let us believe with all our heart that the Lord is our Light, our Salvation and our Stronghold!

12. Psalm 28:6-8

6 Praise be to the Lord,
for He has heard my cry for mercy.
7 The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
and with my song I praise him.

8 The Lord is the strength of his people,
a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.

There is one thing that is constant in our lives, that is the presence of Our Lord. Therefore we do not have to fear as the Lord is our refuge and is with us through every storm. Let's praise our Lord!

13. Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. - Joshua 1:9

Father God, I thank You for Your constant companionship. Your presence strengthens me and frees me from fear. Today, I receive Your encouragement and strength to continue along life's path, for I know that wherever I go, You are with me.

14. Isaiah 40:28-29

Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Believe that the Lord, the Creator of all is from everlasting to everlasting. He is the strength and the power we need when we are tired and weak. While we grow tired - our Lord will never ever get tired or weary watching over us.

15. Psalm 18:1-2

I love you, Lord, my strength.

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.

18. Philippians 4:13

I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.

Strength comes from the Lord, and we can accomplish all things through His strength.

19. Exodus 15:2

The Lord is my strength and my defense;
he has become my salvation.
He is my God, and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Let's praise the Lord and extol His holy name. Believing in the Lord, He will be your strength, your defense and salvation.

20. 2 Samuel 22:31-34

“As for God, his way is perfect:
The Lord’s word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him.
For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock except our God?
It is God who arms me with strength
and keeps my way secure.
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;
he causes me to stand on the heights."

Trust in the Lord who is our Rock. Trust in the Lord whose ways are perfect, whose word is without fault. The Lord will give us strength in all that we need. We are secure in the Lord.

22. Psalm 71:1-3

In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;

Trust in the Lord to guide your way. He is your refuge night and day. He is your fortress, your rock, your rescuer and your deliverer. Take refuge in the presence of the Lord. Cast all your burdens to Him.

23. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

God's grace is enough to sustain us. His power transforms us and we find strength even in our hardships knowing that Christ's power rests on me. Therefore let us put our faith and trust in the Lord and He will help us.

24. Psalm 31:1-3

In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
deliver me in your righteousness.
Turn your ear to me,
come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge,
a strong fortress to save me.
Since you are my rock and my fortress,
for the sake of your name lead and guide me.

Call upon the name of the Lord, He will hear you. He will rescue you as He is your refuge and fortress. Find comfort in the Lord and He will lead us and guide us for His name sake.

25. Psalm 91:1-2

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” - Psalm 91:1-2

26. 2 Timothy 1:7

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

When you are feeling low and discouraged, remember that the Spirit God has given you is of power, love and self-discipline.

27. 2 Thessalonians 3:2-3

And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith. But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

Remember the Lord is faithful and hears your prayers. Call out to His name and He will deliver you, strengthen you and protect you from all evil.

28. Nehemiah 8:10b

Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

The Lord empowers us and He saves us in the time of need. The Lord is our source of strength, protection and deliverance.

30. Psalm 59:16

But I will sing of your strength,

Sing praises to the Lord, for He is your refuge and fortress. The Lord is a source of our strength and salvation.

31. Jeremiah 16:19-21

Lord, my strength and my fortress,
my refuge in time of distress,
to you the nations will come
from the ends of the earth and say,
“Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods,
worthless idols that did them no good.
Do people make their own gods?
Yes, but they are not gods!”

“Therefore I will teach them -
this time I will teach them
my power and might.
Then they will know

In times of distress, God is a true refuge, unlike false gods that offer no real help. God promises to reveal His power to the nations, showing them that He alone is the true God, worthy of worship and trust.

32. Psalm 73:25-26

Whom have I in heaven but you?  And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever - Psalm 73:25-26.

Lord, You are the greatest and most wonderful thing in my life. Knowing You strengthens my heart, and knowing that I will be with You for eternity helps me see everything from a new perspective. Today, I receive the strength that comes from You!

33. Psalm 18:31

For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God?

- Psalm 18:31

You are my rock, Lord; in You, I stand firm! It strengthens me to know that there is no storm too great that can remove me from beneath Your protection.
