Are you feeling sad? Do you need help overcoming sadness and anguish? The Bible has important words for you.

1. Feeling sad is natural

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. - Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

- Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

It is not wrong to feel sadness. We all go through difficult times in life. But the Bible also says that sadness does not last forever - your joy will return one day.

2. Jesus Consoles

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion
to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
the oil of joy instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

- Isaiah 61:1-3

Jesus does not come with harsh or insensitive words, nor with meaningless answers. Jesus loves you and wants to embrace you and care for you. He has the power to restore your life and comfort you from all your sadness. Surrender to Jesus, trust in Him, and He will help you.

3. Jesus Wept

Jesus wept. - John 11:35

Jesus wept.

- John 11:35

Jesus also felt sadness and understands what you're going through. You are not alone in this struggle.

4. Have Hope

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God. - Psalm 43:5

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

- Psalm 43:5

Take a moment to reflect on the causes of your sadness and question your soul... Talk to your heart, inviting it to place firm hope in God. He is your Lord and Savior!

5. Sadness Is Temporary with God

For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. - Psalm 30:5

For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night,
but rejoicing comes in the morning.

- Psalm 30:5

When we trust in God's goodness, even in the midst of sadness, we can experience His incomparable comfort. Even if you are going through dark nights in your life, believe! Jesus can shine His light and fill your heart with complete joy.

6. Don't Give Up!

Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them. - Psalm 126:5-6

Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.

- Psalm 126:5-6

Even when you sow with tears in your eyes, don’t stop planting. Plant prayers and acts of love. You will reap the fruits of what you plant. Do not stop or become discouraged... God has a future of joy for you.

7. Jesus Will Turn Sadness into Joy

You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. - John 16:20

Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.

Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.

- John 16:20, 22b

We know that we are not exempt from the difficulties and sufferings of life. But in those moments, remember and trust that you are not alone. God is a present God! Jesus promised that He will turn your sadness into endless joy. No one can take away the joy that Jesus gives. Believe this and turn to Him with faith and hope. God is faithful and wants to help you.
