Forgiveness is very important in the Bible. Forgiveness reveals God's love and is the solution to many problems. These are 6 important lessons from the Bible about forgiveness:

1. God Forgives

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.- Ephesians 4:32

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

- Ephesians 4:32

God forgives every person who truly repents and accepts Jesus as their Savior. It doesn’t matter how many sins you’ve committed or how great they are, God forgives everything! When you forgive, you imitate Jesus.

2. Forgiveness Brings Freedom

Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. - Psalm 32:1

Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.

- Psalm 32:1

There is nothing better than feeling forgiven, free from all guilt! God's forgiveness frees us from condemnation. Forgiveness is also an act of liberation for the one who forgives: freedom from the weight of hurt, resentment, and bitterness.

3. Those Who Love Forgive

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.- 1 Peter 4:8

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

- 1 Peter 4:8

You forgive those you love because love is unconditional. Forgiving is not about accepting someone’s wrongdoings against you. Forgiving is about resolving the situation without holding onto bitterness, understanding that the offender is a sinner like you, who also needs Jesus.

4. Those Who Are Forgiven Love

Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little. - Luke 7:47

Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven - as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.

- Luke 7:47

Forgiveness generates gratitude. When a person understands that they have been forgiven, even though they did not deserve it, they will love the one who offered them forgiveness.

5. Forgiveness Has No Limits

Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.- Matthew 18:21-22

Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

- Matthew 18:21-22

You’ll lose count long before you reach 490 times! God’s forgiveness is endless; yours should be without conditions as well. Forgive those who have hurt you and let the pain fade with time. Don’t hold onto resentment, but release forgiveness—even if they have disappointed you many times.

6. Forgiveness Brings More Forgiveness

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. - Matthew 6:14-15

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

- Matthew 6:14-15

If you truly understand God’s forgiveness, you will be willing to forgive others. A lack of forgiveness is a lack of understanding of God’s love. When God forgives, you forgive. When you forgive, God forgives, and others learn to forgive!

Have YOU ever experienced God’s forgiveness?
