“I can do all this through him who gives me strength." Philippians 4:13

"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
Philippians 4:13

Paul lived with joy - even in difficult times - because it was clear to him who in his life was the perfecter of his faith, Jesus Christ! The apostle experienced good times and bad, happy times and sad times. All of this contributed to the refining of his faith, and the understanding that all his strength came from God and not from within himself.

"God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble."
Psalm 46:1

“Thus far the Lord has helped us.”
1 Samuel 7:12b

"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."
Exodus 14:14

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
John 3:16

This is certainly one of the most well-known verses in the Bible. But more than just learning it by heart, we should engrave these words on our hearts. Jesus' sacrifice on the cross was the greatest proof of love that ever existed. Through this proof of love, we received salvation for free. God's love for us is priceless and irresistible. Just believe in this love and you will be eternally free!

"What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"
Romans 8:31

"Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits"
Psalm 103:2

Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly;
though lofty, he sees them from afar.
Psalms 138:6

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:1

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
John 1:1

This opening of John's Gospel is one of the strongest statements in the Bible: Jesus is God! Before anything else existed, God already existed. The action of God was with him, the action of the Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us, Jesus.

Jesus is the very Word of God in action, the Word incarnate! When we accept this truth, we are saved by the action of the Word, which is Christ!

"Anyone who is among the living has hope—even a live dog is better off than a dead lion!"
Ecclesiastes 9:4

"He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."
Psalm 91:2b

"Teach me your way, Lord,
that I may rely on your faithfulness;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name."
Psalm 86:11

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
John 16:33

We will go through difficulties, but we can decide how we will get passed them: with Jesus or without Jesus. Those who love Jesus are already guaranteed victory. Even in difficulties, it is possible to have God's peace and make it through the desert. In Jesus, we are victorious because he won for us!

"Whoever loves money never has enough;"
Ecclesiastes 5:10a

"The horse is made ready for the day of battle,
but victory rests with the Lord."
Proverbs 21:31

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever."
Psalm 107:1

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:20

"For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them."
Matthew 18:20

When we're together, we grow stronger! We share our challenges in prayer, one helping the other. Being in Christ means always sharing, blessing and being blessed by the lives of your brothers and sisters, who are by your side. Communion is God moving among us!

"A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you."
Psalm 91:7

"My beloved is mine and I am his;"

Song of Songs 2:16a

"Better a patient person than a warrior,
one with self-control than one who takes a city.'
Proverbs 16:32

“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be childrenof your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous." Matthew 5:44-45

"But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be childrenof your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."
Matthew 5:44-45

Loving our enemies is a difficult task. If we are sometimes aggravated by our friends, imagine how much harder it is with those who persecute us? That's why the ability to love is a gift from God, which we must seek and pursue with all our strength. We can only love when we are aware that we were loved first!

We have to cultivate love through the Holy Spirit, creating compassion for those who are far from Christ and understanding that even our enemies can and should have the opportunity to know the word that sets us free. Through the Holy Spirit, we can love even those who persecute us.

"I call to you, Lord, come quickly to me;
hear me when I call to you."
Psalm 141:1

"Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life."
Psalm 143:8b

"When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;
when the wicked rule, the people groan."
Proverbs 29:2

“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."" Mark 16:15

"He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.""
Mark 16:15

When something is really good, don't you want to share it with others? The Gospel of salvation is just like that! It is impossible to receive the blessing of salvation in Christ Jesus and not be motivated by the Spirit to share it with our neighbors. Go! Offer the Water of Life to those who are thirsty!

"My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever."
Psalm 73:26

"I delight greatly in the Lord;
my soul rejoices in my God."
Isaiah 61:10a

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Luke 12:34

“Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only."" Luke 4:8

"Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.""
Luke 4:8

The devil tempted Jesus by offering him all the kingdoms of the world and authority over them, and in return asked to be worshipped. Jesus rebuked the evil one by saying this strong phrase.

Often there is no time to hesitate or to be delicate, declare the Truth! The word that enlightens has the strength to break chains and cast out evil.

"He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds."
Psalm 147:3

"For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,"
Romans 14:17

"Come and see what God has done,
his awesome deeds for mankind!"
Psalm 66:5

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth." John 4:23-24

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth."
John 4:23-24

God is looking for true worshippers. Those who worship him with a sincere heart emptied of pride. God wants us to worship him not just with words, but with deeds and an upright testimony that points to him. That is true worship! Seek God in spirit and in truth!

"Whoever would foster love covers over an offense,
but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends."
Proverbs 17:9

"Those who sow with tears
will reap with songs of joy."
Psalm 126:5

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 5:8

“The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these." Mark 12:31

"The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these." Mark 12:31

Whoever loves his neighbor as himself obeys the Lord's commandments. Loving your neighbor is an arduous task, it requires effort and faith. Loving is not something that comes naturally, loving is a gift from God! We have all been touched by God's love. The greatest proof of love was the sacrifice of his Son on the cross, which justified us and gave us the right to love, just as he loved us!

"for we are all members of one body."
Ephesians 4:25b

"Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand."
Psalm 73:23

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

1 Clap your hands, all you nations;
shout to God with cries of joy."

Psalm 47:1

“Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Luke 5:31-32

"Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
Luke 5:31-32

Many people think that the church is a place for the "perfect". On the contrary, the word of God goes out to the wounded. It is addressed to those who understand that without God they can do nothing. Those who are sick receive healing in Christ, and those who recognize that everything comes from God receive deliverance.

"I know that you are pleased with me,
for my enemy does not triumph over me."
Psalm 41:11

"The Lord sustains them on their sickbed
and restores them from their bed of illness."
Psalm 41:3

“Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”" Luke 18:27

"Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”"
Luke 18:27

Nothing is impossible for God! There is nothing that can prevent his will. We have limitations as men, but he who is in Christ is able to achieve great things through the Son of God! We have received what would have been impossible for us: payment for our sins. He gave himself for us! We have received salvation for free and we are proof that what was impossible for us was possible for God!

"Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,"

Psalm 114:7

"Praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord
who minister by night in the house of the Lord."

Psalm 134:1

“If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell." Matthew 5:29

"If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell."
Matthew 5:29

This word can truly give you the shivers! Just the thought of tearing off a part of our body makes us feel pain. When Jesus said these words, he made something very clear: we have to nip evil in the bud. And it's not easy, it's often painful and it can limit us.

But remember: it's better to have certain limitations in life, turning away from evil and reviving in Christ, than to remain attached to yourself, or to sin, and die eternally.

"Israel, put your hope in the Lord"

Psalm 131:3a

"For the Lord is righteous,
he loves justice;
the upright will see his face."
Psalm 11:7

“8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

"8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast."
Ephesians 2:8-9

We are saved by God's grace and there is no work of our own strength that can justify us. Jesus' sacrifice was complete. Paul, in guiding the church in Ephesus through this exhortation, made it clear how important it is to exercise faith and humility. In Christ we will do great things, but the glory is always God's!

"I will exalt you, Lord,
for you lifted me out of the depths
and did not let my enemies gloat over me."

Psalm 30:1

"Surely God is my salvation;
I will trust and not be afraid.
The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense;
he has become my salvation."

Isaiah 12:2

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."
1 Corinthians 10:31

In this verse there is a relevant instruction for us to follow. The importance of the believer being Christian with integrity, not just being a church-goer, or using "gospel slang" to identify himself as a believer. A Christian is recognized by his fruits!

Anyone who has truly understood that they have been transformed in Jesus no longer divides their life between the "sacred" and the "secular". Even the simplest things in everyday life should point to the Father. In fact, it's in the little things of everyday life that we really show whether we live the Word or not.

"Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things;
let this be known to all the world."

Isaiah 12:5

"Even to your old age and gray hairs
I am he, I am he who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
I will sustain you and I will rescue you."

Isaiah 46:4

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us." Romans 8:37

"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us."
Romans 8:37

One thing is certain, in Christ we will always be victorious! This is a permanent condition, because Christ's victory on the cross - from which we benefit - was accomplished. There are times in life when we should remember this victory, because we were bought at a high price on the cross. When we think about this, any problem becomes smaller. God's love overcomes pain and sadness and, conditions us to share this victory with those who need to be reached.

"The bows of the warriors are broken,
but those who stumbled are armed with strength."

1 Samuel 2:4

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Romans 6:23

“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one." Ephesians 6:16

"In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one."
Ephesians 6:16

The shield of faith is a vital part of the armor of God. This shield comes from faith in Jesus! Only through faith in Jesus can we neutralize the arrows of the evil one. Faith is essential for winning the spiritual battle, because without faith we would be unprotected and easily hit by any attack.

So strengthen your faith in Jesus! Read the Bible more, listen to God's word more. Take a moment to pray and talk to God. The more you strengthen your faith in Jesus, the bigger and stronger your spiritual shield will be!

"In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus."

Romans 6:11

"We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves."

Romans 15:1

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

"If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
Romans 10:9

When we confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is our savior, we are reaffirming what we believe. To believe is to have the faith to keep this conviction in our hearts. We need to strive in faith, with seeking, practice and action.

What keeps our mouth proclaiming that Jesus is our savior is our faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God, and faith comes through hearing and reading God's Word. The result of this is works, the fruits of the spirit that reflect our witness in the Christian walk.

"Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up."

Romans 15:2

The Narrow and Wide Gates

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it."

Matthew 7:13

“17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" 2 Corinthians 5:17

"17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"

2 Corinthians 5:17

That's the real power of the Gospel! When someone truly accepts Jesus and follows in his footsteps, the past no longer has control over them. In Christ we receive full forgiveness and have a new chance to write our story!

The devil will try to tear this word from our hearts, trying to confront the old man with the new man in Christ. That's why Jesus is our Advocate! With him we move forward in faith and don't stand still in the face of the evil one's accusation. When we move forward, new things emerge and a new opportunity to rewrite our story through the Blood of Jesus!

"Walk with the wise and become wise,
for a companion of fools suffers harm."

Proverbs 13:20

"For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything."

Hebrews 3:4

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ." Romans 10:17

"Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ."
Romans 10:17

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. When we hear the preaching of the Gospel through the word of Christ, we strengthen our faith. When we hear the word of the Holy Spirit, we are shaped, tested and broken.

This process makes us grow even more, just like a plant that needs pruning to grow. We can only strengthen our faith by reading and listening to God's word! The more we hear, the more solid our conviction in faith becomes! "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed" through the Word of God!

"God looks down from heaven
on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,
any who seek God."

Psalm 53:2

"We will not hide them from their descendants;
we will tell the next generation
the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,
his power, and the wonders he has done."

Psalm 78:4

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 6:23

We had no choice, we were doomed to death by sin. Through Jesus Christ we received eternal life, a free gift from God. From the grace that God has given us, today we have the right to life and the ordinance to share this grace with those who have not yet been freed by the word of the Good News.

"A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger."

Proverbs 15:16

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanksto God the Father through him."

Colossians 3:17

“15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work." Ephesians 4:15-16

"15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work."
Ephesians 4:15-16

This is the structure of a healthy church. Christ is the head, the source. The whole body is controlled by the head. It's not that one member is less important than another, but that each one has a special and specific function in the body of Christ. Just as the feet are important for support, the toes are important for balance. We must exercise our functions with excellence and love for the Kingdom of God.

"would not God have discovered it,
since he knows the secrets of the heart?"

Psalms 44:21

"In God we make our boast all day long,
and we will praise your name forever"
Psalm 44:8

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Galatians 6:9

If we are getting tired, it means that the good we are doing has taken effort. When we make an effort to do good, we are sowing and we will certainly reap the fruits of what we sow. Therefore, doing good is not an effort in vain. At the right time, in the right season, we will reap what we have sown. We mustn't get discouraged; as long as it's not harvest time, it's time to sow well!

"Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you."

Hebrews 13:5b

"My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth."

Psalm 121:2

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanksto God the Father through him." Colossians 3:17

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanksto God the Father through him."
Colossians 3:17

May your actions always be a good witness of Christ. When we act in any situation, people around us analyze our actions. The Gospel must be preached in word and deed! Paul was a great example. In everything he said he would also act, always pointing to Christ as the goal and not himself.

"And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved"

Acts 2:21

"Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest in hope,"

Acts 2:26

“For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ." 2 Corinthians 1:5

"For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ."
2 Corinthians 1:5

The Christian life is not easy. Paul knew this, because he suffered for the love of Christ. But even in suffering, the consolation of the Holy Spirit and the presence of God in Paul's life spurred the apostle on to continue boldly proclaiming the faith at that time.

Even today, for the sake of Christ, we will suffer persecution and discrimination, but above all, those who are in Christ receive the refreshment and consolation of the Holy Spirit from God, through the word of God.

"Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you."

Psalm 63:3

"Keep me as the apple of your eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings"

Psalm 17:8

“For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him." Romans 6:9

"For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him."

Romans 6:9

Death no longer has dominion over Jesus, nor over those who believe in him! The victory over death was complete. We have been made alive by the Spirit and reborn in Christ as new creations.

We have died to sin and lived for Christ!

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do,
and he will establish your plans."

Proverbs 16:3

"God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind."

Numbers 23:19a

“38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39

"38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:38-39

This is one of the most powerful verses about God's love. What Jesus did out of love for us has been accomplished and approved. There is no disputing, no denying what has already been done. God's love for us is immutable and inseparable. Be convinced that Jesus loves you and there is nothing that can separate you from God's love! That is sublime!

"But I am like an olive tree
flourishing in the house of God;
I trust in God’s unfailing love
for ever and ever."

Psalm 52:8

"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever."

Psalm 118:1

“21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil." 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22

"21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil."
1 Thessalonians 5:21-22

We shouldn't despise prophecy. But discerning what is prophesied is part of spiritual maturity. In all things we should retain what is good and try not to cause discord, this is also part of maturity in Christ.

Seeking to distance ourselves from evil encourages us to have this maturity. Knowing how to avoid small pitfalls is the result of being attentive to God's word and aiming for Christ and not discord.

"The Lord reigns,
let the nations tremble;
he sits enthroned between the cherubim,
let the earth shake."

Psalm 99:1

"Exalt the Lord our God
and worship at his footstool;
he is holy."

Psalm 99:5

“Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." Matthew 18:18

"Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
Matthew 18:18

In this verse Jesus is instructing his disciples on how to do deal with sin collectively within the church. He uses the same words with Peter privately two chapters earlier, although Peter has an extra promise that he will receive the “keys to the kingdom”. (Matthew 16:19)

Actions here on earth have heavenly consequences. This is why repentance and forgiveness are so important. Heaven has “keys” because the natural consequence of sin is to be locked out of God’s kingdom. To avoid this we should make decisions that steer us as close as possible to God’s will, and seek forgiveness when we fail.

Although this may appear overwhelming and intimidating we should remember that God’s love and forgiveness are endless. Later Jesus tells his disciples to forgive their brothers and sisters, “not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” (Matthew 18:22). It is God’s desire to have a relationship with us, and to welcome us open-armed into Heaven.

"then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind."

Phillipians 2:2

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Phillipians 4:19

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
1 John 1:9

Confessing our sins is not an easy task. But it is necessary and requires brokenness. By placing our lives before God, he is able to forgive us and give us a new perspective on life. Through Jesus we have been washed clean and had our sins forgiven. He took upon himself all injustice and pain and freed us from the yoke of sin.

"It is God who arms me with strength
and keeps my way secure."

Psalm 18:32

"Praise the Lord.

I will extol the Lord with all my heart
in the council of the upright and in the assembly."

Psalm 111:1
