Share a Bible message and words of encouragement with those who are ill. No one likes to be poorly... sickness discourages us and destroys our plans. But illness is not a sign that God has abandoned you! In times of pain, sickness, and disease, the Bible has words of encouragement and healing.
1. Jesus understands your suffering
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5
Jesus knows what it's like to be in extreme pain. He understands what you're going through and he's with you.
2. Jesus is your strength
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9a
When you have no strength left, Jesus will carry you.
3. Find Rest in God
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:28
In sickness, in pain, in tiredness: Jesus gives relief and rest.
4. God Restores
1 Blessed are those who have regard for the weak;
the Lord delivers them in times of trouble.
2 The Lord protects and preserves them—
they are counted among the blessed in the land—
he does not give them over to the desire of their foes.
3 The Lord sustains them on their sickbed
and restores them from their bed of illness.
Psalm 41:1-3
God can cure you of your illness. Nothing is impossible for God. He loves you and wants to work miracles in your life.
5. Faith in Jesus is the Best Medicine
He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”
Mark 5:34
Faith in Christ Jesus is the first step toward healing. Without faith, it is impossible to please the Lord. Faith is the fuel that gives us hope and moves the heart of God.
6. Illness is not forever
‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Revelation 21:4
Even if you have an incurable disease, you have hope. One day, in heaven, your health will be completely restored. There will be no more sickness or suffering, only joy!
7. Everything is possible for God
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26
Everything is possible for God! You may be going through difficult times, but put your faith in God. He alone has the power to turn all situations around. Nothing is impossible for Him!
8. You are not alone
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18
God is close to you! Do not be discouraged, because the doctor of doctors goes before you, protecting you.
9. The Lord heals
Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed;
save me and I will be saved,
for you are the one I praise.
Jeremiah 17:14
Do not be afraid to come to the Lord with your prayers and concerns, he loves you and wants to perform a miracle in your life. Respond to all that God has already done in your life with praise.
10. Prayer Changes Everything
And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
James 5:15
The prayer of the righteous is powerful. Pray in faith, believe and the Lord will lift you up!
11. God wants to ease your pain
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:28-29
Jesus can ease your pain. Place your burdens on him, no situation is too challenging, dangerous, or big for him. He is an almighty God and can carry anything.
12. Put yourself in God's hands
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this:
Psalm 37:5
Let God take charge of your life. Trust him and he will act. The challenge may be great, but God's power is greater.
13. Jesus can heal you
6 “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”
7 Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”Matthew 8:6-7
No matter what your condition, Jesus wants to heal you! He healed in the bible and still heals today. Believe in him and stand firm in faith.
14. He is your help
Lord my God, I called to you for help,
and you healed me.
Psalm 30:2
It is in the hardest moments that our faith is tested. Who do we turn to when nothing seems to be working out? Run into the arms of the Lord. He is your refuge and your medicine!
15. Your victory is for the glory of God
3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.”
4 When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”John 11:3-4
We don't know what God's plans are for our lives, but we do know that he has prepared the best for us. It is with this conviction in our hearts that we have to move forward in faith. Hardships occur so that God may be glorified! At the right time, your testimony will glorify God's name.
